There is now a toll free number you can use to access the most recent Monthly Foster Care and Subsidy Check information:
1-800-719-9670

When you call, you will hear a recording giving you the date of the most recent check and the date the checks were placed in the US Postal Service for mailing. You will also be instructed to dial 0 if you need further assistance; this connects you to the Office of Accounting.

Support services remain a vital part of helping New Jersey's foster,adoptive and kinship families through the challenges of being a licensed resource parent.


Who is eligible to receive FAFS' support services?

  • Prospective foster, adoptive and kinship parents as well as inquirers and applicants

  • Foster, adoptive and kinship parents who are licensed by the Department of Children and Families and the Office of Licensing

  • Those who have adopted children through the Department of Youth and Family Services

How can I access support services provided by FAFS?

You can access FAFS’ services by calling our toll-free hotline, 1.800.222.0047, or by visiting FAFS’ website, www.fafsonline.org. All calls are confidential and all services are free.

2010 Tax Information

Were you contacted by the IRS about your adoption credit claim? If so, you may receive only a portion of your total tax refund until the review of your claim is complete. You will be notified by the Internal Revenue Service if your return is selected for review. Once the review is complete, you will receive another notice explaining what steps you need to take to resolve any issues. For more information, including tips on what to do if the IRS contacts you about your

Adoption Tax Credit: The Adoption Tax Credit for 2010 has been expanded. The credit amount for 2010 has been increased to $13,170. For more information, please visit: 2010 Adoption Tax Credit

Tax Credit Resources: NACAC has updated information on the U.S. federal adoption tax credit to reflect that the credit is now refundable. Targeted to families who adopt from care, the resources cover adoptions finalized in 2010 and those completed in earlier years. Visit NACAC to access the updated information.


New Law Gives Children in Foster Care Stability

New Jersey's children in foster care now have the right to stay in their current school when entering foster care or changing placements, if remaining in that school is in the child's best interest, under a bill recently signed into law by Governor Christie.
