Get to Know FAFS 40 Club Member Joan Montuori

How long have you been fostering?

43 years.

How many children in foster care have you had in your home?

238 as of August 2013.

How many of these children (if any) have you adopted?

2.

What made you become a foster parent?

I love children and have 5 bio kids. I heard on the radio that there was a need for foster parents so I heeded the call. My husband and I fostered for 5 years together, and then the rest of time I fostered on my own.

What advice would you give to your fellow foster parents?

Always keep your patience and love for the children.

What is the most important thing you would like the public to know about foster families?

We are really good people, not like what is usually portrayed on TV. It is only the few that might be bad, just like any other group.

How has FAFS helped you as a foster parent?

The training is very helpful, and so are the meetings and the friendliness of people.

If you could leave a message in a bottle for children in foster care, what would it be?

We are safe places for children. We love children, and you are part of our families while you are with us.
