NJ Foster Care Art Contest

An art contest for youth who are, or have been, in foster care, kinship care or adopted though DCP&P in New Jersey.

Foster and Adoptive Family Services is seeking teens and young adults, ages 16 to 24, who are, or have been, in foster care, kinship care or adopted in New Jersey to participate in the My Bright Future Art Contest.Three participants will be awarded a $500.00 cash prize.

Use your creativity to construct an original work that represents your vision for your future success.

MAILING INSTRUCTIONS AND DEADLINES

FAFS will accept entries between January 5, 2015 and April 13, 2015. All entries must be postmarked by April 13, 2014.

Art work that needs to be shipped in packages must be mailed to:

All entries must be postmarked by April 13, 2015. Be sure to include your completed entry form and waiver in your mailing.

Any creative work will be accepted! Some examples are:

Writing (i.e., poetry, prose, short story, drama, essay)
Entries should not to exceed 2,000 words, must be written in English and submitted on one side only of 8 ½ x 11 inch paper. Pages should be numbered, typed or neatly written, with the entrant’s name written on the back of each page. All work including typing, page layout, and formatting must be completed by the contestant(s). FAFS is interested in learning about your foster care experience. If you feel the need to change names or the names of places in your work in order to protect your anonymity or the anonymity of others, please do so.
Visual Arts (i.e., painting, drawing, prints, photography, sculpture) Mount artwork on sturdy mat board, foam core board, cardboard, or poster board for display. This is optional but strongly encouraged. Do not laminate entries. No picture frames, slides or transparencies accepted.
*Please note that any submission may be publicly displayed, therefore, inappropriate images or content will not be accepted. You may only submit original work that you personally created.

JUDGING

The artwork will be judged by the FAFS Contest Committee. Winners will receive $500. The artwork will be judged on the following elements:

  • Clarity of the theme to the viewer/reader.
  • Creativity and originality demonstrated in the piece
  • Quality of composition and design.

PRIZES
